ESL and RENNSPORT have teamed up and proudly present ESL R1 – Racing Released. ESL R1 is the home for heroes. We are racers at heart and gamers in mind. Passionate. Competitive. And proud of our virtual racing heritage.
ESL R1 is fusing racing culture into the digital age to give you a virtual racing experience unlike anything you have seen before. With the community as a top priority, ESL R1 allows you to impact it all. Let’s race.
The 2023 calendar consists of two seasons, each culminating with a live, final event and a total prize pool of €500,000. The spring season will kick off the ESL R1 2023 Spring Season with a bang at the free-to-enter IEM Expo, a part of Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) Katowice, on February 10-12 2023. In this first season of ESL R1, 8 partner teams and 4 wild card teams will participate.
These 48 drivers (four drivers per team) will compete against each other in eight rounds per regular season. Each round consists of a total of 7 races: 4 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals and a final. Each race is also preceded by a qualifying session to determine the starting order of each driver. After the launch at the IEM Expo in Katowice, the rounds will be held online on Fridays and Mondays.
Each season, the 24 top-ranked drivers will advance to the ESL R1 Major where they will face off to decide who will become the ESL R1 Champion.
The Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, iRacing’s premier road racing championship for sports cars, roars into its fifth season in 2023. After a brand new qualifying procedure set the field through the summer and fall, 30 of the world’s best sim racers will do battle on a global tour starting in January for their share of a $200,000 USD prize pool. The single-make esports racing championship, featuring the renowned Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, was established in 2019 in a partnership by the iconic sports car manufacturer and iRacing, the world leader of online motorsport simulations.
Porsche Esports Carrera Cup GB, the virtual championship for professional sim racers, made a successful debut in 2021 and crowned 21-year-old esports star Sebastian Job as its inaugural champion. The third Porsche Motorsport GB championship, running alongside Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge GB and Porsche Carrera Cup GB, was claimed by Apex Racing Team’s Kevin Ellis Jr who is now your 2022 PECCGB Champion.
The BMW M SIM Cup returns for 2023 with a brand new qualification system for BMW SIM LIVE. Gone is the “win and you’re in” format. Instead, the grid for BMW SIM LIVE will be formed from the overall championship points after 10 races. The 10 round format heads to the likes of Barber, Daytona, Suzuka & Silverstone.
The Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO) announced its plans for a new top class in international Esports racing, the Esports Racing League (ERL), at the ADAC SimRacing Expo. Starting in 2022, this is to be hosted on the three sim platforms iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2.
Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO) brings together different stakeholders in Esports, from simulation or gaming platforms and interested partners to active teams, drivers and the community. In a rapidly growing sector, VCO stands for professionalism, focus and a broad media presence. With its international network, VCO provides solutions for the best possible conception and implementation of Esports projects of all kinds.
